Two Brothers, Two Bikes, 1,000 Miles: Alvord Desert (Part 1)

My brother and I set out on our first multi-day motorcycle trip: a 1,000-mile round trip to Oregon's remote Alvord Desert.

Let's Go!

In Part 1 we ride from Washington down through Longview, cross into Oregon over the Lewis and Clark Bridge, work through Portland traffic, and climb past Mount Hood on Highway 26 before dropping into the high desert toward our first campsite at The Cove Palisades State Park. Along the way we put the new Royal Enfield Bear 650 and Honda CB500X to the test for long-distance highway cruising and scenic touring.

Day 1 route

  • Longview, WA and the Lewis and Clark Bridge
  • Portland and See See Moto Cafe
  • Mt. Hood Highway (Hwy 26)
